Life On Life’s Terms

For those attempting recovery it is sometimes difficult to deal with the curves life throws at you.  Depending upon your state of mind, there are the times when every little thing affects you way too dramatically and regardless of how you are feeling, you know, in the back of your mind perhaps, but you know, that these little things should not be affecting you so dramatically.  Sometimes you may be in denial about it, but then that is what different support groups are often supposed to do…help you to right-size things.

At other times, there are just those very specific things that are your Achilles heel.  Your weak spot.  So that whenever you truly think that you are doing way better and you are finally living happily and comfortably and able to manage your own life, that one weakness seems to come up and slap you in the face and the question is now….do you fall down?

Does your work suffer?  Does your family suffer?  Does your state of peace and tranquility vanish?  For how long does it vanish?  Does it simply go away for a few moments, or are you going to fester in the all too well known feeling of misery and despair that makes you want to throw away all you have worked so hard for?

Many use the group support thing to prevent themselves from falling into that trap of throwing it all away.  Old habits die hard.  What are you going to do about it when you get hit hard?

Pausing to breathe and reflect upon your blessings and all of the positives that you were focusing on before you got hit by the passing destructive thoughts.
